Cinkarna Celje at the 10th Strategic Conference on the Future of Electricity Distribution

Cinkarna Celje, d.d. took part in the 10th Strategic Conference of electricity distribution companies, held this year in Celje, where we contributed to a roundtable discussion on the transition from centralised to distributed electricity generation.

During the first conference panel, the President of the Management Board, Aleš Skok, highlighted that Slovenia’s electricity distribution system remains stable, while continuing to evolve in terms of digitalisation, the integration of renewable energy sources, and enhanced network resilience and flexibility. In this context, distribution is gradually moving beyond its role as a reliable infrastructure provider to become a partner to industry, creating new opportunities for cooperation.

Energy transformation is one of the key strategic pillars at Cinkarna Celje, and we are making substantial investments in this area. We are strengthening our own energy self-sufficiency through solar power plants and battery storage systems. An important part of this transformation is the project to utilise process steam from sulphuric acid production for electricity generation. The upgrade of steam production forms the first phase of this project and has largely already been completed. The next key phases include the installation of additional water treatment equipment, construction of the facility, installation of a steam turbine, and the commencement of trial operation.

By participating in the conference, we are reinforcing our active role in the energy transition and continuing to invest in our own energy solutions to ensure a reliable, sustainable and competitive electricity supply.
