Material Damage Following Railway Wagon Incident at Cinkarna Celje

On Wednesday, 24 December 2025, shortly before 11:00 a.m., an incident resulting in material damage occurred at the Titanium Dioxide business unit of Cinkarna Celje. During the unloading of railway wagons carrying titanium slag, the train composition, for reasons currently unknown, failed to stop.

No injuries reported and no adverse impact on the environment.

The wagons collided with the crane runway and pushed it through the wall of the ore storage facility. The company’s internal safety protocol was immediately activated, and the relevant competent services were notified without delay.

Most importantly, no employees or external contractors were injured in the incident. There is also no danger to local residents or the environment. Material damage did occur; however, an estimate of the damage cannot yet be provided.

The company management emphasizes: “The most important fact is that no employees or external contractors were injured. There is also no risk to the environment. At Cinkarna Celje, the safety of our employees and the local community is our highest priority. We are treating the incident with the utmost seriousness, which is why we immediately implemented all safety protocols and involved the competent services. We sincerely thank all services and employees who participated in the prompt and professional response.”

The situation is under control and production is operating.

The incident does not affect product quality and, according to current assessments, will not cause disruptions to supply. All production processes are currently running smoothly. During the remediation process, the company will adapt production activities to the circumstances in order to ensure reliable deliveries and high quality for customers even in extraordinary conditions.

The reason why the train composition did not stop is not yet known and is the subject of further investigation by the competent authorities. A detailed analysis of the incident will be carried out in cooperation with the relevant departments and services.
