Pursuant to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) no. 540/2011 implementing Regulation (EC) No Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the list of registered active substances, tribasic copper sulphate is one of the five EU-authorized copper active substances for the purpose of manufacturing plant protection products.
Copper has been used in agriculture for plant protection purposes for more than 250 years. The first copper fungicides were made on the basis of copper sulphate and lime. Due to the demand for a modern form of copper active substance, the process of making tribasic copper sulphate has been developed and perfected in the world in recent years. Demand in Europe is very high, especially in countries where the consumption of copper fungicides is highest (Italy, France, Spain). In 2019, we therefore decided to start the process of synthesis of tribasic copper sulphate in Cinkarna Celje as well. Its competitive advantages are good efficacy at slightly lower doses, lower phytotoxicity and classification as less toxic.
Use of active substance
Tribasic copper sulphate (technical salt) is mainly used for the production of plant protection products in the formulation WG (wettable granules), but due to its specific properties and small particles it is also suitable for the production of the increasingly present SC formulation (concentrated suspension).
Phytopharmaceuticals made on the basis of the active copper substance tribasic copper sulphate can also be used in organic production.
